Preparation for credit ESL courses. Beginning academic listening, speaking, and reading, with an emphasis on listening and reading comprehension, oral fluency, and vocabulary development for non-native speakers of English. Practice in listening to and reading informational and literary texts, and discussion and presentation skills. Language skills integrated on the basis of academic tasks and content. ESLA 3165 and ESLA 3175 can be taken in any order.

High-intermediate English language (ESL) skills development through communicative, contextualized practice on topics including the U.S. healthcare system, critical health issues, patient-provider communication, interactions with healthcare teams, and healthcare careers.

Low-intermediate level English language (ESL) reading and writing focus course. Comprehension of adapted written texts. Development of short, clearly-organized paragraphs for a variety of purposes.

High-beginning level English language (ESL) reading and writing focus course. Comprehension of simplified written texts about everyday life and work. Writing short paragraphs in common everyday life and workplace contexts.

Pronunciation skills for improved oral communication. Review of formation and production of English sounds. Rhythm, stress, and intonation in ESL intermediate-level words, sentences and conversations.

Basic pronunciation skills for beginning-level English language learners. Letter-sound correspondence, stress, intonation, and rhythm are introduced.
