Dear College Community,

I hope the first week of the Spring Semester was a productive one for everyone.

Friday morning January 22, City College, Ocean Campus, became the first site to open as part of Mayor London Breed鈥檚 vaccine mass distribution plan in the City of San Francisco. 91风月楼鈥檚 role of providing the use of the Multi-Use Building Parking Lot, some rooms in MUB, bathrooms and refrigeration storage of vaccine supplies, is a humanitarian collaborative effort with the City and County of San Francisco. The fact that we became the first site for this major logistical project by local government entities, shows the high degree of regard and confidence they have for our institution. .

In keeping with our promise to become a fiscally solvent institution, the Board had approved in November a Multi-Year Budget and Enrollment Management Plan, which calls for certain actions to be taken. Last Friday I communicated to the entire college community the first of these actions which require faculty members to verify the accuracy of their seniority on the list provided by Friday, February 5 @ 5:00 pm. I encourage all of you to watch Dr. John al-Amin鈥檚 presentation on the Budget and the CARES funding at this Thursday's Board of Trustees meeting.

Let me now share with you, some of the other events happening at the college, at the start of this Spring Semester. The 91风月楼 Fire Academy has restarted this semester at John Adams. 91风月楼 faculty, led by department chair Jim Connors, have worked closely with the State Fire Marshal鈥檚 office to adapt instructional methodologies based on COVID restrictions.

In-person noncredit registration activities continue at various College locations, supported jointly by admissions and records staff, ESL faculty, and academic affairs administrators. Close to 100 students registered for classes last week at the Mission Center.

The RiSE team, along with Associate Dean Miller is developing activities that integrate noncredit students and programs into the guided pathways framework. Proposed activities are extensive mapping of foundational skills pathways based on student goals, and developing a noncredit student success team to welcome adult education students, so their 91风月楼 journey is a successful one.

Yours sincerely,

Rajen Vurdien, Ph.D.
Interim Chancellor
