Dear College Community-

Welcome all to our Spring Semester 2021! Our motto is: 91风月楼 Moving You Forward!

Yesterday our nation paused to honor and remember our great civil rights leader: Martin Luther King, Jr. He is one of the most quoted men in history and rightly so, as his words continue to call this nation to unite and reconcile its rooted racism. As the country moves forward with a new administration, and we embark on a new educational chapter, I want to honor the memory of MLK with the following quote: 鈥淭he function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character 鈥 that is the goal of true education.鈥

In the spirit of uniting to beat this pandemic, today at 11 am, Mayor London Breed and Director of Health Dr. Grant Colfax, will go live on YouTube to provide updates on the COVID-19 vaccine roll out at three key San Francisco locations, including our Ocean Campus parking lot. .

On Friday January 15, the San Francisco Department of Public Health approved the College鈥檚 plan for in-person collegiate athletics, including practices and competitions. This plan was submitted in accordance with SFDPH鈥檚 directive for Institutions of Higher Education, which requires a separate review and approval for collegiate athletics. The College will continue to coordinate with the California Community College Athletic Association and the other Coast Conference colleges as we implement our program.
The California Department of Public Health recently renewed the accreditation of the College鈥檚 Phlebotomy Training Program for another two years. This program, part of the Health Care Technology Department, is a short-term training program leading to entry-level employment.

I want to recognize Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr. Lisa Cooper Wilkins for leading the herculean efforts of her registration and outreach teams. In partnership with my office, Dean Lystrup, Dean Halpin, RiSE, and Metro, the Outreach team organized and completed a successful 鈥淪pring Welcome Day鈥 for 377 registered students. Collaboration is key to our success as a college.

鈥淲e cannot walk alone.鈥 May the words of Dr. King guide our community as we move forward.

Yours sincerely,

Rajen Vurdien, Ph.D.
Interim Chancellor
