February 1, 2021

Dear College Community,

I hope you all had a very restful weekend and I look forward to many accomplishments this week.

I am pleased to share a student program accomplishment! Once again, 100% of the graduates of the Diagnostic Medical Imaging program have passed the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registry Exam on their first try! The past 2+ years of intense didactic and clinical learning culminated at this final exam. By successfully passing the ARRT's Registry Exam, the graduate earns the title 鈥淩egistered Technologist鈥 and the privilege of adding the abbreviation 鈥淩.T.(R)(ARRT)鈥 to their name. Earning those credentials marks a major professional milestone. The DMI faculty would like to publicly acknowledge and congratulate the following Registered Technologists, who made up the Class of December 2020:  Reccal Aldea, Laura Craig, Keziah Crutchfield, Allicia Khuu, Brittany Machado, Joey Owyeong, Reianna Sanchez, Kusym Tamang and Jeffery Yoaddungjun.

The accomplishments continue. In October we reported that the California Adult Education Program (CAEP) solicited input from Associate Dean Miller and Transitional Studies Department Chair Maria Rosales-Uribe for a national news publication about the adult education story in the greater Bay Area. The piece focuses on the ongoing need for adult education pathways across the area and includes compelling stories of students and the educators who support them. . Associate Dean Miller has also been assisting in the preparation of the first Annual Report for the expenditure of CARES Act HEERF funds (student and institutional portions) for the period 3/27/2020 - 12/31/2020. This has been a collaborative effort with the Finance, Financial Aid, and Human Resources teams.

Finally, City Extension is busy enrolling students in over 50 workshops offered throughout the Spring. Presenters continue to find creative ways to adapt their workshops to virtual formats for a variety of topics including tabletop painting, conversational languages, film appreciation, story-telling, and personal finance.  Adapting to the changing economy, the Extension is also adding high-demand business workshops focused on web presence and digital tools. .

Have a wonderful first week of February.

Yours sincerely,

Rajen Vurdien, Ph.D.
Interim Chancellor
