Welcome back from a beautiful weekend in the Bay Area.
It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our 35-year veteran Police Officer Ray Flood who passed away on Sunday, April 4. Final services will be held this Wednesday, April 14 in Bassett, Virginia. To access Ray鈥檚 obituary, send flowers, sign a sympathy card, or plant a tree in his memory, . Ray left an impression with everyone he met. He was the first Police Officer I met when I arrived at City College and he gave me a tour of the campus.
Get the facts. Get informed. Our next 鈥淏udget Forum,鈥 is tomorrow, April 13 at 4:30 pm. You do not need to register. You simply attend the forum on the time and date . In these forums Dr. John al-Amin will review the structure of our budget and answer your questions on our financial re-structuring. We had nearly 150 attendees last week. Feel free to share this information.
April is . The Library team has created a resource website that includes poetry, activity and related information. Make sure to visit the called 鈥淧ower of Poetry,鈥 created by the Library Virtual team. Last week April 6, was National Library Workers Day. Please take a moment to thank our amazing 91风月楼 library employees!
In athletics news, our women鈥檚 soccer and women鈥檚 water polo teams have been competing in both home and away games. Our women鈥檚 soccer team has been undefeated in all of their three games! Each team has one more game next week, which will close out our Spring games. Congratulations!
More great news! 91风月楼 has been awarded two National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education grants, both focused on biotechnology. One grant focuses on increasing the participation of underrepresented students in biotechnology by recruiting and building a pathway to build technical and career skills ($433,504). The other grant ($275,596) is in partnership with UCSF to address the barriers to inclusivity faced by community college biotechnology students and their mentor-managers. Congratulations to the Principal Investigators!
